The House

Colislinn House is a treasured and well-used family home with lots of character, a place where you can experience living in an old house. It has been renovated over the years but has retained most of its period features including ornate ceilings, open log fires, original wooden floors, and a wood-paneled bathroom. Rooms are very generously proportioned and from the many large windows, there are great views over the garden and the hills beyond. The furniture is mostly vintage and antique. Furnishings are simple but comfortable and informal. We have spent many holidays here with our own children so the house is very child-friendly and there is all manner of indoor and outdoor games available. A great place for playing Sardines.

The Grounds
Outside there are lawns, paddocks, woodland and rolling hills beyond, all readily accessible without having to get into a car. There is plenty of outdoor furniture available for when the sun shines and a large trampoline, croquet and badminton set for the kids as well as endless opportunities to build dens, paddle in the burn, have an adventure, etc, etc. In the summer we also set up an enormous paddling pool for all the family to enjoy.

About 100 yards away from the house runs a small burn which flows into the Slitrig Water where guests can take a swim in the natural pool.

Colislinn is an ideal spot from which to tour the beautiful Borders countryside. There are many places of historical interest such as Hermitage Castle, Mellerstain House and Abbotsford to name but a few.

Activities in the area include golf, horse-riding, cycling, fishing, archery, clay pigeon shooting and walking. Hawick is 2.5 miles away with good shops and pubs, café’s and restaurants.
